Who are the Watertown Youth Coalition Peer Leaders?
The Peer Leaders are a group of committed Watertown high school students who meet weekly to plan activities that help support and empower young people living in Watertown. Peer Leaders are a part of the larger Watertown Youth Coalition which is a group of youth, adults, students, parents, school staff and administrators, and local agencies from the community that promotes healthy lifestyles among Watertown youth & their families.

Why should YOU be a Peer Leader?

If you are a student at Watertown High School, you should consider becoming a Peer Leader in order to:
  • Help make your community a better place for young people
  • Learn the skills that will make you a great leader and role model
  • Earn community service hours for school
  • Enjoy fun weekly meetings with other Peer Leaders and good food
  • Gain volunteer and leadership experience that college recruiters and employers look for
  • Earn stipend money




What have Peer Leaders done in the past?

In the past, Peer Leaders have:
  • Organized annual Diversity Day events at Watertown High School
  • Attended trainings
  • Helped 5th graders using the “Reach Out Now” curriculum
  • Raised over $1000 at Arsenal Mall Gift wrap several years in a row
  • Created and distributed holiday gift baskets to senior citizens in collaboration with the Marshall Home senior citizen population
  • Assisted in Cooking Club classes at Middle School
  • Raised over $1000 at Arsenal Mall Gift wrap several years in a row
  • Supported the Even Start Program by teaching English to new community members
  • Made community presentations with adult members of the Watertown Youth Coalition
  • Produced a quilt made by Watertown High School students during Diversity Week 2006
  • Worked with the Improbable Players performance group to deliver substance abuse education through a dramatic presentation




When do Peer Leaders meet? Wednesdays from 6-7:30 in the Faculty Café at WHS. Peer Leaders will meet at many other scheduled times and places during the school year.
